On the Downside of Technology.

I think the world has grown too used to modern technology that along the way we lose human touch. Ironic that here am I typing away on blogger, relying on the infamous Internet.

Do we really laugh out loud when we type LOL or smile silly when we use emoticons like this? =)

A few days back, I received an sms by a friend who asked if I could attend her wedding in December. Yea, I got a little irritated but then again, being nice, I replied a confirmation.

An invitation should be personal.

Invitation(from dictionary.com) :

–noun
1. the act of inviting.
2. the written or spoken form with which a person is invited.

See, an act. WRITTEN or SPOKEN. Not Short Message Service. Shouldn't an invitation portray a form of happiness? I cannot feel the emotion via SMS. I don't feel the need to congratulate. I don't feel like I am important enough. It's like I'm invited only to make up the numbers.

If I ever get married one day, I'd make sure the person invited feels special. And if time permits, I will personally customize each and every single invitation card and hand deliver. I don't want my guests to feel obligated attending my wedding just to "show face".

It all bogs down to one's perception of technology. While some unknowingly abuse it, others manage to do good. And yes, you can say that sometimes I do struggle to keep my human touch when using technology.

What ever happened to the age old tradition of serenading your love like Romeo? Or the olden days much loved communication of writing love poems with ink? How about the mushy poems and the lovely hand made gifts? Who actually fold those paper stars/ hearts nowadays?

And how do you say 'I Love You' on sms?

I will MARRY the first guy who writes me a love letter.

Without hesitation.
