On politics.

These past 2 weeks have been crazy. Singaporeans are suddenly so into politics. From the girl vs girl fight of TPL and NS, to PM Lee's apology, to "slapping" the govt, to "striking" them down, to countless of online political debates, mostly by tech-savvy young Singaporeans, to PM Lee's first attempt on FB chatting, oh and to my mum's plead for a PAP vote from me. She said, "Your mother's day gift for me is to vote for PAP". What nonsense lah my mum.

Anyhow, my vote will be cast in the morning tmr and when night falls, our little red dot shall anticipate for a change. A change for the good or bad is still unknown. I admit, though feeling vent on certain issues as a Singaporean, I am not politically educated enough to debate on the current policies or even to give any support to the opposition. Honestly, I know shit about politics. I try as much to be neutral all the time, hearing out on both sides; watching all the WP rallies and cheering with them, reading biased articles on ST, watching the news, liking politicians on FB, supporting Nicole Seah, liking George Yeo, respecting PM Lee. Yea you get the drift.

Today is Polling Day. As a proud citizen of Singapore, I know my vote counts. My vote itself is a voice in parliament. Here's my take after these 2 weeks of constant debating within myself on what I feel is right, and what I want best for my beloved country. All I know is that I am thankful to be living in Singapore despite numerous flaws in what the govt thinks is best for the people. I am thankful that Singapore is a safe country and that it is so easy to travel from point A to point B without being worried that you'll get lost or mugged along the way. I am thankful for the clean water when I turn on the shower in the morning to bathe. I am thankful for a good education system(despite it being stressful and competitive) so that I too, have a chance to be useful in society. I am thankful for a multi-cultured harmonious living environment that's why Singaporeans can get so used to living overseas. I am thankful for the implementation of National Service for boys to become men (despite countless of wayang-ness by the SAF) jus so the world knows that Singapore is ever-ready to fight to defend our land (srsly, I think the men in Singapore are all very brave). I've also heard lots of stories by NS regulars, recruits on saying how shitty everything is when not seen by the public eye, and truth be told, there are indeed stuff that fall through the cracks. I also realized most taxi drivers are anti PAP. I'm not saying all of them are, but from what I recalled by conversations with taxi drivers are that those who are pro opposition are those who lost money in business, cant get the same salary after being retrenched or some are just lesser than average and struggling to make ends meet just so they can send their children to school. Taxi drivers seem to be already a party on their own, campaigning against the govt that they are unhappy about.

Singapore has a huge decision to make today. We heard enough from both sides. I must say that the opposition party won me over with a couple of their speeches and I was indeed determined to make a difference (furthermore, me being under Aljunied makes it all the more exciting). But politics are ever controversial. Towards the end, I based my vote on the party that I feel most secure with and believe that there will be a change in the future of Singaporeans.

To be able to apologize whether or not you're wrong or right takes shitload of courage. Human beings are too egoistical to say 'sorry', needless to say a govt which argues that all those policies or decisions made are deem fit for the citizen. If Singaporeans are unhappy about having casinos, then "gambling" your next 5 years is acceptable? Vote with your brain, not your heart; for your heart stirs emotions to upset the brain.

On a lighter note, I attended my first rally on Thursday evening and met Xiaxue! I must say, she is super friendly in person. Spoke to her for a while and of course, thanked her for taking picture with me. And if you don't already know, she is super pro PAP.

Happy Polling Day my fellow Singaporeans. Vote wisely.
